The recent discovery of oil by Petrobras in the Foz do Amazonas region has sparked a provocative statement from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In a press conference, Lula suggested that if US President Donald Trump were to continue his aggressive stance against Iran and order the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Brazil could become a major oil supplier to the world.

This statement was made in the context of Lula's visit to a Petrobras oil exploration ship in the Margem Equatorial region. The Brazilian President described the discovery as a "passport to ensure the future" of the country.

## Petrobras' Optimism

The CEO of Petrobras has expressed optimism about the discovery, stating that the administration is optimistic about the prospects of the new find.

## A Long Road Ahead

However, experts believe that there is still a long way to go before the first oil can be extracted from the site. The discovery was made in the Morpho well, located approximately 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapá. While the well has shown promising results, further evaluation is needed to determine the commercial viability of the site.

| Well | Location | Distance from Coast | | --- | --- | --- | | Morpho | Amapá | 175 km |

The discovery is significant because the Margem Equatorial region is a key area of focus for Petrobras in its search for new oil reserves. The region stretches from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte and has gained attention following discoveries in neighboring countries, such as Guiana and Suriname.

Lula's statement has been seen as a provocation by some, particularly in light of the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Gulf to the Indian Ocean, has been blocked by Iran since the start of the conflict in February. The US has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in response.

In his statement, Lula seemed to suggest that Brazil could become a major oil supplier if the US were to continue its aggressive stance against Iran. However, the Brazilian President also acknowledged that the discovery is still in its early stages and that further evaluation is needed to determine its commercial viability.

While the discovery is seen as a significant step forward for Petrobras, it is clear that there is still much work to be done before the first oil can be extracted from the site.
